They’d been here the month prior, but they returned yet again. This time wearier than the first, but perhaps a bit closer than before. Lam wandered alongside Virizion, no long quite so apprehensive of matching their pace. Before he’d only trailed behind, and had followed their lead. “Do we know each other better now?” he asked of them. They’d met on Mt. Chimney so many months ago. They’d encountered Rockets more than once, experienced Greyson Connors’s ascension to avatarship. They had pulled Lam from a precarious situation on more than one occasion. They retreated at his request. He was compelled to stand ground by their example.[break][break]
Maybe the balance had been there all along.

When the gligar leaps out at them, Lam doesn’t even bat an eye. He looks to Virizion and nods. The Sword lashes out with a LEAF BLADE that knocks the smaller pokemon back—leaving it open for the catch. The synchronicity comes easier, he thinks.[break][break]

But will the compromise in battle? When it is necessary to measure what is worth fighting and what is not?[break][break]

He can only hope so. Can only hope that the wise retreats made previously were not just Virizion humoring him. He’d like to think that he is rubbing off on them a bit, too.

the hovering baltoy is paid no mind as they continue on. it was actually quite comfortable wandering along the path with virizion. maybe they were more alike than he assumed, or maybe not. maybe he'd misjudged the legend as a purely exacting force when it knew more balance and nuance than it let on. after all, despite their being a sword of justice, it wasn't as if virizion struck a bloodthrirsty or war hungry sort of image.[break][break]
they actually seemed incredibly serene, if not somewhat removed and austere. like they belonged there, treading through the underbrush. like a guardian. that was a nice thought: a sword for the sake of protection. lam thought he could get behind that.

“this is nice.” He chanced saying it aloud as Virizion glanced at him curiously. They stood along the shore of the small pond. Horse bobbed in the water peacefully. But he never really had interest in aquatic sorts. He’d leave these be too. Virizion’s hooves tapped into the shallows, wading carefully nose at one in interest, and then they turned and rejoined Lam on the ground so that they could resume their wandering.

The rubble on the path began to rumble as they walked. Lam frowned, looking down at his feet as an ancient power threatened to uproot them. He looked around, eyes landing on what he’d misjudged as a rock previously. The dark colored minior summoning a defense that virizion quickly put a halt to with a well placed smart strike. Lam quickly tossed a safari ball to further subdue the fallen star.

The trapinch they came across next was far less imposing. Uprooted by the minior’s attack, its small body wiggled uselessly—toppled upside down as it was. Perched on its overly large head, it sorta reminded Lam of a squirtle stuck on the back of its own shell. Poor guy—trying to avoid getting chomped, he tapped it with a ball to both relieve it of its predicament and also bring it along home.
